I-2066 passes 328,000 signatures, super signing blitz scheduled this weekend

OLYMPIA—Supporters of I-2066 to protect natural gas as an energy choice and prevent gas bans have scheduled one last series of super signer events to help them crush their goal of 405,000 signatures by July 5.

With over 328,000 signatures returned as of June 26, supporters are optimistic they’ll get the remaining signatures they want to ensure Initiative 2066: Protect Energy Choice makes the November ballot.

By state law, they must submit 324,516 valid signatures from registered Washington voters to qualify. The Secretary of State’s office recommends a “cushion” of 15 to 20% in case some of the signatures collected are duplicates or from non-voters.

I-2066 protects reliable, affordable energy choices like natural gas and propane and prohibits gas bans in Washington.

“The support we’re seeing for this initiative from the public is truly remarkable,” said Greg Lane, Executive Vice President of the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW). “Natural gas provides warmth and comfort to more than a million Washington homes. It’s also the lifeblood of thousands of restaurants and businesses.

“The people of our state don’t want to trade their warmth, comfort and security to pay for a political agenda,” he said. “That’s why we’re seeing such strong support.”

  1. Leave our natural fuel resources alone! We need them we want them and we are going to keep them. You in Olympia work for Us don’t forget that.

    1. They say there is no GOD. But they will worship anything that will curtail others life liberty and pursuit of happiness.

      1. Natural Gas is Old Technology, let’s replace it with renewable energy.
And let’s have the states pay the supply costs.

  2. I thought I heard on national news that gas ranges were going to be discontinued because of the health problems in the home when breathing the gas fumes????

    1. That’s a crock modern properly installed units are very safe and efficient as are furnaces and water heaters. My utility bill (gas electric combined)goes down when I use my gas fireplace in the winter and shut down my heat pump

    2. It’s called Propaganda, like 99.9%
Of the garbage served up by the demokkkrat state government !!!%
They’ve got exactly zero evidence of what you’ve stated kinda like 51 ex spurts claiming the hunter laptop is Russian disinformation.
Every thing the slave master’s have claimed has been destroyed by Truth !!!%

      1. @boatsailor, it may be that you need more time at the tiller but I very much reccomend you continue with your meds as your comment indicates a loss of connection to reality with a serious conspiracy disorder.

    3. That was a lie. Some nobody in a federal agency said during an interview that it would be possible to ban them if they were dangerous. No one in the administration ever actually tried or even wanted to ban them.

    1. How progressive of you! Seems there are quite a few people that don’t agree… Should they have a choice? Or should politicians decide what’s best for them?🤔 They do always seem to have the peoples best interest in mind🤪 Who should pay for these people to get all new appliances? Maybe you can!😬 Imagine if someone decided you needed to spend tens of thousands of dollars to fix something that’s not broken… Sound fair?

      1. Not to mention the new electrical circuitry needed to operate a 220 volt stove !!!%
It’s always about control, control of the masses !!!%
        Sheep are so stupid !!!%

        1. Nobody is required to switch from what they already have. If you were told this, you were straight up lied to. The ban is for new methane lines. Existing ones are not touched at all.

      2. You haven’t read the bill, have you?
Most people here just read the headlines and get caught up in someone else’s agenda.

        > Should they have a choice?
        They already do.

        > Who should pay for these people to get all new appliances?
        Jeff Bezos

        > Imagine if someone decided you needed to spend tens of thousands of dollars to fix something that’s not broken… Sound fair?
        Gas is a broken system.

Who’s agenda are you inadvertantly supporting?

        (Big Gas)

    2. It is not the responsibility of government to regulate the choice of heating and cooking in a home or business.

  3. With proper ventilation gas cooking in homes and restraints is no a problem. Free choice is America, don’t forget that or you might find it gone. People thing it will always be there it takes involvement to insure that it will be.

  4. Government will always try to limit what actually helps the people, and those who say “oh well” will someday feel the heel of the masses. Natural gas is one of the cleanest energy sources, but it’s cheap and efficient, just what government hates.

    1. Methane is notoriously leaky. It is not clean. It is a health risk and terrible for climate change.

More importantly for the ban though is that it does not affect existing lines at all. If you have a has line, you are okay to continue using it.

  5. The ban would be for NEW gas lines. It DOES NOT touch existing gas stoves. If you have your leaky methane stove already, you are NOT affected. This initiative is idiotic and only works on fear mongering.

  6. “i’m from the government and I’m here to help.” Scariest sentence in English language.

  7. They will restrict natural gas today and will come after propane tomorrow. The Democrats want to control everything.

  8. I live fulltime in my rv, I’ve already upgraded my furnace to an electric furnace and changed my range to electric, before this was a thing.. it’s saved me that extra 250 a month for a refill, vs the 45 I pay for electric at my park..
