Congregants from the Seattle-based Satanic Temple of Washington drew a crowd of prayerful onlookers Friday as they hoisted their pentagram and conducted a satanic ritual at the state Capitol Friday, March 6.

Christian groups and followers caught wind of the Satanist celebrants and showed up to sing and pray in the name of Jesus.

Some younger Christians held a sign that read “Satan has no rights.”

Satanic Temple affiliates, such as Justin Harvey-John Ashby, said their event was about promoting religious plurality. He said he believes satanic beliefs have been misunderstood and viewed as “grossly perverse,” and that their primary values are empathy, reason, bodily autonomy and justice.

  1. The Seven Tenets:
    I
One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
    II
The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
    III
One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
    IV
The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one’s own.
    V
Beliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs.
    VI
People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one’s best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
    VII
Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

However you choose to think of us, these are our guiding principles. Not made in evil intent. We wish no ill will to anyone.

  2. I’d like to ask one question: If satanism represents good things, then why do they wear black, a “color” symbolic of evil, of darkness? And why are there bones hanging beside the pentagram in the top picture? Bones are a symbol of death and such is the path satanists are headed down.

I grieve for the satanists shown in these photos. They are precious individuals created in God’s image for relationship with Him. God desperately loves and reaches out to them. Satan actually stands for everything BUT empathy, justice, reason, or anything good. He is a liar and a murderer *(John 8:44). Jesus Christ is Lord and God, Savior of mankind and has come to destroy the works of Satan (1 John 3:8) and to that end, healed, raised from the dead and set people free from the very powers satanists serve. Jesus died on a Roman cross so we could have the very things satanists claim their beliefs represent, and so much more: love, light, purity, freedom from sin, eternal life.

Jesus is God alone and the only one worthy of worship and the yielding of our lives. He alone is the way, the truth, and the source of abundant life (John 14:6, John 10:10). Instead, Satan and all those who refuse to follow God will be thrown into hell when Jesus returns to judge the world (Revelation 20:10). But God in His mercy and love, does not want that fate for anyone but longs for everyone to repent and come to Him through Jesus and be saved (2 Peter 3:9). *All content between parentheses references from the Holy Bible.

  3. Dude, come on..! Beliefs should conform to one’s best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one’s beliefs. Really???
‘Scientific understanding’ and ‘facts’ constantly change. For instance, the age of planet earth, they can’t put their finger on it. They always change their statement. At one point they said the instruments and the machines they use to determine how old the planet is are old and faulty, and your tenet says people should put their beliefs on that: man-made faulty machines and principles. How eye opening!!!

  4. Christianity is not just a belief, but it is a living belief because it’s about a living God. So it didn’t come by man, but by God in flesh. So from what I understand about you is that you don’t believe that satan is a spiritual entity. Meaning your religion is being started by you. Man. So your beliefs can be GOVERNED BY SCIENTIC FACTS AND UNDERSTANDING, but Christianity does not fit into that box coz it’s about a VERY BIG GOD in whom all things were created, including our world, and then came to die in it.

  5. Even though your tenet principles are ‘not made in evil’, I can’t help but notice that what you guys are doing is fulfilling what satan said in Isaiah 14:12-14. Please take a look at it.
So here’s my question to you, what if you’re wrong. What if your ‘good’ intentions exalt and promote his intentions?
