Over 100 crushed to death at Indonesia stadium stampede 

Indonesia, October 2, 2022—The football world is in a state of shock following the tragic incidents leading to the death of 125 people crushed to death in Indonesia at the end of the match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium yesterday.

The crush took place after police tear-gassed fans who invaded the pitch. Panic ensued then thousands surged towards the exits, where many suffocated.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino says in a video released statement that it is a “dark day” for football. Flags will fly half-mast at FIFA headquarters in respect of those who lost their lives.
