Marysville invites you to volunteer for summer cleanup events

MARYSVILLE, Wash., June 12, 2023—Are you ready to help your community? The City of Marysville is hosting several volunteer events this summer that focus on tidying and maintaining city parks and community-gathering areas.

“Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and give back to the community,” Volunteer & Community Events Coordinator Sam Giffin said. “Litter pick-up is a great way for anyone to get involved as it’s really accessible to anyone.”

Volunteers must be 14 years or older, or attend with a parent/guardian.

Litter cleanups work. Studies have shown that cleanups are important for supporting tourism and local economies, protecting wildlife and raising public awareness of the threat of litter to both wildlife and communities.

The goal of the Marysville Litter League is to pick up 2,000 bags of waste this year, and we are already more than halfway there. Join our four Litter League events this summer to help reach our goal.

Volunteer groups will start at the meet-up locations before branching out to different streets. The city will provide trash pickers, gloves and trash bags.

Happy Parks, Happy Hearts

“Our Parks Maintenance team does a great job at keeping our parks a safe and enjoyable place for people to visit,” Giffin said. “However, some tasks have to be put towards the end of the priority lists.”

For these events, volunteers will help with:

  • Herbage restoration, such as removing invasive plants like blackberry and knotweed
  • Spreading bark chips
  • Painting and staining projects
  • Landscaping, such as weeding, edging and trimming.

Volunteers should bring their own gardening gloves and bottled water. The city will provide the necessary tools for specific projects.
