Sultan man injured and his dog dead after officer involved shooting

Sultan, Wash., July 10, 2023—Detectives with the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) are investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place in Sultan that resulted in the suspect being shot and wounded with non-life-threatening injuries. A dog was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

The Incident happened at 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, at the intersection of 2nd St. and Cedar Ave. in Sultan. Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to reports of a man armed with a knife. Deputies arrived on scene and there was an altercation between the suspect and another involved male. Deputies gave verbal commands and suspect did not comply. A physical struggle ensued, and the suspect was shot and wounded. The dog came out of the suspect’s house during the altercation and was shot by deputies. The dog went back into the house after being wounded and later died.

Deputies immediately rendered aid to the suspect, and he was transported to the Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett. The suspect is a 44-year-old man.

The identity of the second involved male is not being released at this time. A road closure took place at Cedar Ave. and 3rd St. while detectives investigated the scene.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
