LYNNWOOD, Wash., August 11, 2023—The City of Lynnwood will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the 196th ST SW Improvement Project on Tuesday, August 15, at 10 a.m. in the Fred Meyer Parking Lot near the 196th and 44th Ave West intersection.  This event is open to the public.  Â
About the 196th ST SW (SR-524) Improvement Project
- Located in the heart of Lynnwood, 196th ST SW is the busiest street in the City, even nudging out Hwy 99, with traffic volumes reaching 40,000-50,000 vehicles per day.
- The improvements were designed to reduce traffic congestion, better accommodate bus and transit travel, increase business access, provide utility capacity for future development and promote safety.
- 196th ST SW is home to hundreds of businesses and residential buildings and is a part of the major corridor that includes the Lynnwood Transit Center, the future Lynwood Light Rail Station and the burgeoning City Center area
- The City of Lynnwood received $26 million in state and federal grants to complete this project. Project funding includes an additional $22 million in City, WSDOT and private funding for a total of $48 million.Â
