“It has been my honor and privilege to serve Everett and be part of the Everett Police Department for the last three decades,” said Chief Templeman. “Now is the right time for me to make this transition.  I feel confident in the leadership within our organization and am leaving our community and department in good hands. I’m also thankful for the continued support for law enforcement and our employees from Mayor Cassie Franklin and her team.”

Chief Templeman dedicated his entire professional career to serving the City of Everett. He was hired by the Everett Police Department shortly after graduating from college in 1992 and started off as a patrol officer working in north Everett.

Over the years, Templeman earned promotions, moving through the ranks from patrol to detective, sergeant, special investigations lieutenant, captain and then deputy chief in 2011. Shortly after his appointment to deputy chief, he attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. In 2014, the former Chief of Police, Kathy Atwood, retired and Templeman was appointed as chief.

He also was awarded with departmental honors, including Officer of the Year in 1996 and Supervisor of the Year in 2001.

“We are all very excited for the Chief after dedicating himself to our community over the past three decades,” said Deputy Chiefs John DeRousse and Jeraud Irving. “On behalf of the department, we’d like to thank Chief Templeman for his leadership and management of the police department. He will be missed.”

In a statement shared after Chief Templeman’s announcement, Mayor Franklin stated that she’s working on determining the next steps for appointing a new Chief of Police and looks forward to sharing more in the coming weeks.
