GRANITE FALLS—On Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) unit recovered the 19-year-old Lake Stevens man who fell into the river at the Fish Ladder in Granite Falls around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.Â
On May 19, Sheriff’s Office SAR deputies, dive team, swiftwater rescue team, drone operators and Fire rescue teams responded to the 11600 block of Mountain Loop Highway for reports of an adult male who slipped and fell into the river and did not resurface. Rescuers searched the area for several hours but were unable to locate the man. Search operations continued throughout the following week.
On Saturday, June 1, the Sheriff’s Office helicopter rescue team located the victim. A SAR deputy responded and recovered the 19-year-old from the river. His body was turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Positive identification of the decedent, as well as cause and manner of death, will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.Â
