Plan for bus rapid transit line from Everett to Marysville and Arlington kicks off

SNOHOMISH COUNTY—Community Transit (CT) is expanding its most popular service, the Swift bus rapid transit (BRT) network, to dramatically improve transit in Everett, Marysville, and Arlington. The community is invited to give input on the first phase of the scoping study for the Swift Gold Line. The public comment period runs through August 7.

The Swift Gold Line will bring fast, frequent and reliable service to the northern part of Snohomish County as continued population growth increases the demand for expanded travel options. It will offer shorter wait times between buses, faster and more reliable service, and connections to traffic-free Link light rail.

“We are focusing on bringing our flagship service to some of the most booming areas of Snohomish County and indeed in the country,” said Ric Ilgenfritz, Community Transit CEO. “Marysville’s comprehensive plan calculations anticipate the city will grow by 35% over the next 20 years, while Arlington’s plan anticipates nearly 75% growth. By expanding access to fast, easy and reliable transportation we will keep our communities and our economy moving.”

With the Swift Gold Line, people will have access to regional and local destinations, like downtown Everett, Everett Community College, downtown Marysville, and the Cascade Industrial Center in Marysville and Arlington. It will also tie into the existing Swift network in south Snohomish County, as well as the regional Sounder commuter rail service and later, Link light rail service at Everett Station, offering an efficient and competitive alternative to driving.

People can comment in a variety of ways:

Following the Scoping Study Phase, Community Transit will select a preferred route and station locations. Ongoing planning work and public input will shape the project as it moves into the design phase and environmental review process. Swift Gold Line service is expected to start in 2029.

Community Transit provides bus and paratransit service, vanpool, and innovative transit options in Snohomish County. The agency is expanding the Swift bus rapid transit network to connect people to light rail and provide fast, frequent service throughout the county.

  1. Oh boy! You’re coming to Everett “in future years.” Should I get in line now? I’m 70 years old. Why are you bothering me about something you’ll probably get to in 2035 – when I’ll be dead? Talk, Talk, Talk, Plan,Plan, Plan. Oops Ted is dead! What a crock. A cheap PR stunt. Theo

  2. The only ones you will see on your bus lines are the illegals that you are going to keep pouring into the poor ranks of homeless while in this Country and the Drug addicts that have no transport to the dealers they have on their phones. Today, you see no more than 10 people on any bus between Everett and Seattle. Who makes your predictions ? some unschooled math wizard? We think you should rethink who it is that runs your company.

  3. Is there going to be a massive auto tabs increase like the one further south? If so vote NO! My tabs were over $500 a year when I lived in Mill Creek. they dropped to a little over $100 in Marysville. Are we going to be heavily taxed like they were for the Rapid Transit tax in Pierce-King and south Snohomish?
