Shots fired during an alleged attempted armed robbery in Edmonds

EDMONDS—In the early morning of Wednesday, August 21, guns were drawn and at least one shot was fired during an alleged attempted robbery in a residential Edmonds neighborhood.

According to the Edmonds Police Department (EPD), two 47-year-old brothers were walking in the Pine Park neighborhood, just south of 7th & Elm Park (pictured). The brothers told police that “two unknown males in a blue Honda SUV stopped them… and the passenger demanded the brothers’ belongings at gunpoint.”

EPD representative Shane Hawley stated that one of the brothers, armed with a legal concealed carry weapon, “drew it on the suspects, who quickly drove away.” At least one bullet was then fired; the brothers said the suspects in the Honda shot in their direction, while Hawley mentioned the possibility of a shot aimed “up in the air.” No one was injured as a result of the gunfire. The incident is still under “active investigation” by EPD.

One shell casing was found roughly 115 yards southwest of 7th & Elm Park. Police searched the area, but observed no ballistic damage to nearby homes.

One Edmonds man, Peter Gibson, found it “strange” that “EPD did not give suspect information or possible threat [sic] to the community.”

Another Edmonds resident, who asked to speak anonymously, questioned the apparent randomness of the armed standoff. “It’s 5:30 in the morning… he just happens to be walking around the neighborhood with a gun in his shorts? Then the guy with the gun in his shorts happens to be the one getting shot at by total strangers… I think there could be more there than they told the cops.”
