EVERETT—The Advanced Manufacturing Training & Education Center (AMTEC) at Everett Community College (EvCC) is marking its 10th anniversary. Since AMTEC opened in October 2014, hundreds of students have prepared for high-demand, high-wage jobs in advanced manufacturing.
Over the past decade, AMTEC has provided hands-on training that bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world application, meeting the evolving demands of the Snohomish County region’s manufacturing sector.
“We are incredibly proud of what AMTEC has accomplished in the last 10 years,” Vice President of Instruction Cathy Leaker said. “Reaching this milestone is a testament to the dedication of our faculty, industry partners, and, most importantly, our students.”
Building a Strong Foundation
The creation of AMTEC was a joint effort by EvCC faculty and leaders in collaboration with industry partners to help meet the region’s growing demand for skilled workers, starting with the need to expand EvCC’s popular, longstanding welding department. Their vision was to build a state-of-the-art educational facility replicating a manufacturing plant.
By 2014, the center was ready to offer classes in welding, precision machining, composites, and engineering technology, with mechatronics added in 2016.
Looking Back, Moving Forward
As AMTEC celebrates this milestone, it continues to lead the way in manufacturing education. The programs evolve alongside industry needs, ensuring that students are prepared for the challenges of tomorrow. AMTEC’s recent success in the “Clash of the Trades” competition, where students placed fourth nationally, highlights the center’s commitment to excellence.
“We’ve achieved great things in 10 years, but we’re just getting started,” said Lisa Jameson, Dean of Professional and Technical Education. “Our students are excelling, and AMTEC is set to keep pushing the boundaries of hands-on learning.”
Join the Celebration
In honor of its 10-year anniversary, AMTEC will host a celebration from 2-4 p.m. Sept. 18 at the AMTEC facility at 909 North Broadway in Everett. The event will feature facility tours, demonstrations, and speeches from industry leaders, educators and alumni. This event is free and open to the public, and parking is free. No reservations are required.
