Lynwood’s high schools’ Football Report: Week Two

LYNNWOOD—Fall is here, and so is another High School Football Season. Both Meadowdale and Lynwood High Schools opened up their 2024 seasons a couple of weeks ago. The Lynwood Times has your football recap and preview for Lynwood High School and Meadowdale High School to get you all caught up!

Meadowdale High School

Meadowdale vs. Kamiak, September 6

The Meadowdale Mavericks opened their season at home on Friday, September 6th, against the Kamiak Knights (Mukilteo). The Mavericks lost the non-league contest 28-6.

“In the last game, I was proud of our team’s effort. We fought hard and showed a lot of grit on the field. There were moments where we executed well, but there are always areas we can improve,” said Meadowdale Head Coach Antwione Gamble to the Lynwood Times.

Meadowdale at Shorewood, September 13

The Mavericks traveled to Shorewood High School on Friday, September 13, for their second game of the season. Despite the loss, Meadowdale Head Coach Antwione Gamble was encouraged by the team’s performance.

“Friday’s game taught our young team some lessons about who we are and who we want to be. Our rushing attack looked solid, and we saw great effort from our offensive line and wide receivers in their blocking assignments, which really helped open up the run game,” Gamble said in an interview with the Lynwood Times.

Thanks to strong offensive line play, the Mavericks rushed for 285 yards on the night. Despite some positive moments, Coach Gamble hopes his team can consistently perform more consistently.

“One challenge was maintaining consistency across all four quarters with ball control; two fumbles deep in our territory didn’t help our defense against a tough Wing-T scheme put out by Shorewood,” Gamble said.

Final Score: Shorewood 47, Meadowdale 14

Next Game: Meadowdale at Mountlake Terrace, September 20

The Meadowdale Mavericks will face Mountlake Terrace High School on the road next week. Terrace is coming off a 42-0 shutout of Lynwood High School. Game starts at 5 p.m. at Edmonds-Woodway High School field.

“Mountlake Terrace is a tough, scrappy team. They don’t know how to give up, and they’re well-coached with a clear belief in what they’re doing,” said Meadowdale Head Coach Antwione Gamble.

Lynwood High School

Lynwood vs Life Christian, September 7

The Lynwood Royals opened the season against Life Christian Academy (Tacoma) at home on Saturday, September 7, after their game against Seattle’s Cleveland High School was canceled. The Royals would lose 64-7 against the Eagles in their season opener.

“The last game was a great display of talent from Life Christian Academy, and they challenged us at every level. I commend our team for staying focused throughout the game and finishing the game with character. With many young, first-time varsity players across the field, this was an excellent introduction for them to the intensity and competitive energy that varsity plays demands,” said Lynwood Head Coach David Harris.

Lynwood High School vs. Mountlake Terrace, September 13

Lynwood High School suffered a 42-0 defeat to Mountlake Terrace on Sept. 13. Lynwood Defensive Tackle Dashon Golston had a standout game with six tackles, four tackles for loss, and one sack. Terrace rushed for 259 yards and threw for another 112 yards.

Next Game: Lynwood vs. Shorecrest, September 20

Lynwood will seek a rebound performance against Shorecrest High School on Friday at 8 p.m. at Edmonds-Woodway High School field. Shorecrest enters the game with a 2-0 record, having won against Lakeside and Everett High schools.
