LPD to hold free women’s defense workshop in honor of DV Awareness

LYNNWOOD—In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Lynnwood Police Department and Bellevue Police Department are teaming up to present a free Women’s Self Defense Workshop on Saturday, October 26.

The event will be held from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., located in the Lynnwood Police Department’s Community Room first floor, 19321 44th Avenue West. The workshop is for ages twelve and up but all skill levels are welcome.

Lynnwood Police Officer Maryam McDonald will be teaching the workshop alongside co-teacher Bellevue PD Officer Hanaumi and will consist of demonstrations and different defensive tactics.

For the past few years, since Lynnwood PD and Bellevue PD have been hosting the workshop, the event typically reaches student capacity fast, Maren McKay, Public Information Officer for the Lynnwood PD said, so it’s encouraged to preregister by emailing mmcdonald@lynnwoodwa.gov to reserve a spot.
