EDMONDS—A 2-alarm fire at Cedar Court Apartments on September 14, that sent two adults to Swedish Edmonds Campus with minor non-life-threatening injuries, has been ruled “accidental” South County Fire announced on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
South County Fire investigators determined that combustible materials were placed on an electric baseboard heater, causing the fire. The fire caused an estimated $2.5 million in damage.
South County Fire would like to remind everyone to keep anything that can catch fire—including furniture, curtains or other items—a safe distance away from baseboard or space heaters.
On Saturday, September 14, more than 60 firefighters of South County Fire and Shoreline Fire Department arrived to Cedar Court Apartment located at 8814 236th St SW, Edmonds, shortly before 3 p.m. with smoke pouring from the one-story complex.
It took 40 minutes to get the fire under control, with firefighters working inside the building and on the roof to stop fire spreading through the attic.
A total of eight apartment units at the were impacted with fire or smoke damage, leaving 11 people displaced. Support 7 and Red Cross volunteers assisted residents with temporary housing and other needs.
