Meadowdale High School Mavericks

The Meadowdale High School Mavericks got their first win of the season after beating Edmonds-Woodway High School 34-27 last Friday (September 27).

“It [the win] was definitely an exciting game, and our team showed a lot of resilience despite turning the ball over four times—three fumbles and one interception. What really stood out was how the team, especially our seniors, never wavered in their belief. The support from the community was incredible, and it fueled us to keep pushing forward,” said Meadowdale Head Coach Antwione Gamble.

The Mavericks could rush for 201 yards and throw for another 102.

Senior Jordan Joyce and Luis Pardita-Del Rosario both scored rushing touchdowns, while sophomore Zekiah Gamble threw two touchdown passes—one to senior Andre Titus for 27 yards (who also had a clutch interception) and another to junior Kealoha Kepoo-Sabate for 6 yards.

A key moment came late in the game when senior Brian Mills blocked a punt after our defense held Edmonds-Woodway deep in their own territory. Mills blocked the punt, and senior Grayson Campbell recovered it in the end zone for the game-winning Touchdown with just a minute left on the clock.

After the game, the Meadowdale Head Coach praised everyone involved.

“This victory was truly a full team effort, from the coaches to the players, the fans, and the faculty. Bringing back the ‘Jam the Stands’ rivalry after five years and winning in such dramatic fashion is something our entire community will remember for a long time,” Gamble said.

Next Game: Shorecrest at Edmonds-Woodway High School, October 4, 5 PM.

The Mavericks will face another tough test in their next game against Shorecrest High School, which has a 3-1 overall record. Shorecrest suffered its first loss of the season this past weekend in an overtime 19-16 thriller against Mount Lake Terrace High School.

“Looking ahead to next week’s homecoming game against Shorecrest, we know we have another big challenge. Shorecrest has been playing great football, and we expect them to come in fired up to spoil our homecoming,” said Gamble, the Meadowdale Head Coach.

“Our focus this week will be on stacking four solid days of practice, making the necessary adjustments—especially in ball security—and continuing to rely on our offensive line, who have been absolute MVPs for us all season. If they keep performing at the level they’ve been at, I’m confident we’ll be ready for a competitive game,” he said.

Lynnwood High School Royals

Shorewood High School 49 – Lynnwood High School 7

Lynnwood High School Royals lost to Shorewood on the road this past weekend.

The Royals’ Sergio Navarro scored the lone Touchdown on a three-yard run on 4th & Goal in the 4th Quarter.  The Royals had some moments of good running throughout the game by Navarro and Lukman Bendawi in the second half.

“Not the result we wanted. I am proud that these players and coaches continued to fight through the 2nd half. Finally, I’m very proud of this LHS [Lynnwood High School] community of students, staff, and parents who continue to support the program,” said Lynnwood High School Athletic Director Andrew Prichard.

The loss drops the Royals to 0-4 on the season.

Next Game: Lynnwood High School at Mariner High School, October 4, 7 PM.

The Royals will head up to Everett to take on Mariner this Friday. Mariner comes into the game with a 0-4 record and has only been able to muster six points in their first four games.
