Lockdown lifted at Marysville school following active shooter scare

MARYSVILLE – Following a report of an active shooter, a lockdown at Marysville’s Mount Pilchuck High School has been lifted and plans to resume operations at the school are currently underway.

The Police Department said that all students and staff are safe and there does not appear to be any immediate danger at this time.

The report of an active shooter was received by the Marysville Police Department via an internet chat to a Veterans Crises Line, originating from an IP address in California, the agency said.

Mount Pilchuck High School was subsequently placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure with response from the Marysville PD, the Marysville Fire Department, and multiple North Snohomish County law enforcement agencies who performed a thorough search of the school but found no evidence of an active shooter on site.

The local police agency said they are working closely with the school, the Marysville School District, and the Marysville Fire District to support students, faculty, and families as they process today’s events.

The Fire District is remaining on-site to provide emotional and medical support as needed and plans are underway for the school to resume normal operations shortly.

On October 24, 2014, a 15-year-old freshman student by the name of Jaylen Fryberg shot five students at Mount Pilchuck High School, fatally wounding four before turning the gun on himself. Fryberg’s father was later arrested for illegally purchasing, and owning, the firearm used in the incident in addition to several other firearm offenses.
