SNOHOMISH—Two women were fatally killed in an early morning traffic collision that took place at approximately 6:30 a.m., New Year’s Eve, on US 2 between SR 9 (MP 6) and 88th Street in Snohomish according to WSP Trooper Kelsey Harding. There were no other occupants in the vehicles.
The driver in vehicle 1, a 50-year-old Stanwood woman, was traveling eastbound on US 2 near milepost 6 when it crossed into the westbound lane striking vehicle 2, head-on. The driver of vehicle 2 was identified as Jennifer Lang, 50, of Monroe. Both women were reportedly wearing their seatbelts. The identification of the driver of vehicle has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
At 6:36 a.m., first responders from Snohomish Fire District #4, Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue, and Everett Fire were dispatched to the multi-vehicle collision. The first fire unit arrived at 6:43 a.m.
US 2 was shut down in both directions between SR 9 and 88th Street Southeast for nearly four hours (7:43 a.m. to 11:12 a.m.), according to Washington State Department of Transportation X updates.
The cause of the crash is being investigated, and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. There were reports of heavy fog near the time of the incident.
