LAKE STEVENS—Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue was dispatched at 12:40 p.m., January 27, to the 2400 block of 99th Ave NE in Lake Stevens after neighbors reported explosions and fire coming from the side of a duplex. A thermal column of smoke was visible from two miles away.
Upon arrival, firefighters conducted a 360-degree evaluation of the fire and began deploying attack lines. The fire was centered around the attached garage of one of the duplex units, which sustained significant damage. As the flames shot out and upward, they burned through a power line, causing it to fall to the ground. The fire also spread into the eaves of the roof and into the attic.
During their initial search, firefighters found no one inside either unit. They were able to knock down the fire within 20 minutes. Snohomish County Fire District #22 firefighters set up a ladder and performed vertical ventilation cuts on the roof to expel heat and gases. Crews then overhauled the fire to ensure there were no remaining hotspots.
Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue Fire Marshals, along with Snohomish County Fire Marshals, were on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
The unit closest to the fire was occupied by one person and their dog, while the other unit housed two adults and one child. Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue would like to thank the neighbor for their quick response by calling 911 and providing details of the fire. That helps firefighters plan an attack as they are on their way.
