GRANITE FALLS—Two men were arrested on January 29 for allegedly burglarizing a Snohomish County 911 emergency communications radio tower north of Granite Falls. This remains an active investigation.
At approximately 7:30 a.m., Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of two suspects burglarizing a Snohomish County 911 emergency communications radio tower north of Granite Falls.
Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect vehicle fleeing from the scene. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle and both suspects fled on foot. K-9 Greg and his handler successfully tracked and apprehended the first suspect, a 44-year-old Stanwood man. Teams were initially unable to locate the second suspect and requested an additional K-9 team as well as the Sheriff’s Office Air Operations helicopter, SnoHawk5.Â
At 10:45 a.m., K-9 Knox tracked nearly two miles, and with assistance from SnoHawk5, located the second suspect fleeing through a wooded area on a cliffside. K-9 Knox made contact and apprehended the suspect. Due to the difficult terrain, deputies were not able to safely move the suspect and requested a helicopter hoist.
SnoHawk5 returned to Taylor’s Landing to retrieve SnoHawk10—the Sheriff’s Office helicopter equipped with hoist capabilities. SnoHawk10 returned to the incident scene and hoisted the suspect, a 37-year-old Marysville man, out of the area.
The suspect vehicle was impounded as evidence and is awaiting the approval of a search warrant.
During the burglary, the suspects damaged the radio tower site and there were intermittent interruptions to emergency radio service in that area. Emergency calls to 9-1-1 were not disrupted during the incident.
Both suspects are expected to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail.
