EVERETT—Hundreds of residents from around the county braved the chilly weather on Saturday, February 15, to purchase by the pouch or the case at wholesale prices, Ivar’s Restaurants’ famous soups and award-winning chowders at Ivar’s Seafood Bar in Everett for its Soup Day.

“We were expecting a good turnout, but this is crazy,” Billie MacFarland, District Manager for Ivar’s Restaurant, told the Lynnwood Times.
MacFarland has been with Ivar’s for 17 years and started her career at the Seafood Bar in Everett. Prior to Everett she managed the fish bar in Mukilteo for 12 years. She shared that although the white clam chowder is most popular with guests, her favorite is the red clam chowder with “a little bit of tabasco.”
Chris Eklins and his wife drove from Alington and stood in line for an hour to purchase $140 worth of soup and chowder.
“Ivar’s is an icon here,” Eklins told the Lynnwood Times. “Growing up in Ballard, this was the chowder and seafood you ate. To go out to eat these days is expensive now, with Ivar’s selling soup and chowder at wholesale, this is a pretty good deal to stock up in your freezer. The kids love it.”

As he stood in line, he shared, everyone spoke with each other and were very happy to get their chowder.
“We got the clam chowder, the salmon chowder, the plant-based soup—which the sample was really good—and chicken noodle soup,” Eklins said. “You don’t have to cook anything; just get some French bread from Safeway…nice hot and smelling good, yum.”
Typically, a bowl of chowder would cost up to $10 (tax included), Elkins shared, but for a 40 oz pouch he spent $11. He hopes Ivar’s does Soup Day again but suggested they pair it with wine and/or beer.
This was the first time ever, Ivar’s Restaurant hosted such an event and MacFarland hinted that management will seriously consider doing it again next year.
