LYNNWOOD—This evening, the City Council appointed Rebecca “Becky” Thornton to the Lynnwood City Council Position 5 that was vacated in January of this year due to the resignation of Councilwoman Julieta Altamirano-Crosby to be sworn in as the new District 2 Snohomish County PUD Commissioner.

From a total of 19 applicants vying to fill the Lynnwood City Council Position 5 vacancy, the Council interviewed their top candidates on February 18 and this evening, February 20, voted unanimously to select Thornton. During the February 24, 2025, Business Meeting, Thorton will take her Oath of Office and be seated immediately.
As a Lynnwood resident for the past five years and a parent of young children, Thornton shared in her application that she has seen Lynnwood emerge as a safe, family-friendly community and is committed to contributing to Lynnwood’s continued growth and prosperity while also celebrating and supporting its diverse culture. She has an MBA from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business.
The City will provide a formal announcement which will include a biography and a quote from the Council Member early next week. The City would like to thank all of the applicants for their willingness to serve the community in this capacity.
