Crash into tree near Marysville claims life of Snohomish man, third fatal collision in two days

MARYSVILLE—A 48-year-old Snohomish man, Kyle Williams, is dead after striking a tree near Marysville on Monday morning with his vehicle.

According to the Washington State Patrol the driver was traveling northbound on Interstate 5, at milepost 201 (between 88th street and 116th street) near Marysville just before 6 a.m. Monday morning, February 24, when he left the road going right, spun, and hit a tree on the driver’s side approximately 50-feet off the road.

The driver’s 2003 Silver Subaru Legacy was totaled and he was transported to Providence Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Williams was wearing a seatbelt, the WSP said, and no drugs or alcohol are suspected. There were no other vehicles involved in the incident.

A witness reported there was a road rage incident prior to the collision between the Subaru and a gray sedan, the WSP said.

WSP detectives are asking witnesses of the collision or the possible road rage incident prior to the collision to call Detective Jeff Rhue at (360) 654-1142 or email him at Jeff.Rhue@wsp.wa.gov.

WSP detectives also request any in-car dash camera footage from the collision or the possible road rage incident prior to the collision.

This is the third fatal motorist accident in Snohomish County within the last two days, with one taking place earlier that same morning.

Woodinville fatal hit-and-run

Earlier Monday a 34-year-old man from Woodinville was killed in a hit-and-run incident near Granite Falls as he was walking along State Route 92 near milepost 6. The man was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling east and was pronounced dead at the scene, the WSP said.

The driver continued to travel east without stopping. This incident is currently being investigated by the WSP and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved. The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Arlington fatal hit-and-run

On Saturday, February 22, deputies working with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office also responded to a fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian hit-and-run crash in the 1500 block of Pioneer Highway near Stanwood.

The victim, a 44-year-old man from California, died at the scene, Renee Cooper with the Sheriff’s Office said, while the suspect vehicle fled the scene.

Detectives discovered the victim had taken public transportation from SeaTac Airport to Arlington and was walking with his luggage to a family member’s house. However, they are unsure of the exact time the collision occurred at this time.

Anyone who may have seen the man walking or noticed an Infiniti or Nissan sedan or sports coupe in the area that night or has a vehicle with front passenger side damage and a missing passenger mirror, is urged to contact CIU detectives immediately.

Positive identification of the decedent, as well as cause and manner of death will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
