North Trunk Sewer Extension project underway thanks to DelBene

SNOHOMISH—Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) on Friday, February 28, participated in the groundbreaking of the City of Snohomish’s sewer extension project. She secured $3 million in federal funding for the project that will help improve service, reduce the risk of sewer overflows, and support more affordable housing development.

The North Trunk Sewer Extension project will divert wastewater from portions of the northeastern part of the city to another sewer trunkline on the west side of SR 9. Approximately 3,100 feet of sewer pipe will be installed from Lakemount Drive south along Avenue D, then west to Bonneville Avenue to 16th Street. An additional 750 feet of sewer pipe will be installed along Bonneville Avenue from 14th Street to 16th Street. The project is anticipated to be completed in August 2025.

“Snohomish is growing and with it so are the needs of its public utilities. Water infrastructure improvements are too often put on the back burner as a result, making replacements and expansions more costly in the long run,” said DelBene. “It’s great to see this project underway with the help of the $3 million federal investment that I helped secure.”

“The City of Snohomish takes a significant step forward as we break ground on this vital sewer infrastructure project. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Congresswoman Suzan DelBene in support of this critical investment, we are better prepared to meet the needs of our community, protect our environment, and ensure a reliable system for generations to come. This project is a testament to what we can achieve when federal, state, and local partners work together for the good of our residents,” said Snohomish Mayor Redmon.

DelBene secured $19.4 million for 15 community projects across Washington’s 1st Congressional District in the FY23 federal funding package, including the North Trunk Sewer Extension project. Projects came directly from non-profit, city, county, Tribal, and state entities, and all funding secured was done in collaboration with project sponsors.
