Black Men in Action: Join us in the fight against Colorectal Cancer

The “Black Men in Action: Against Colorectal Cancer” campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of colorectal cancer screenings among Black men. Set in an unfinished warehouse, the photoshoot features Black men in formal or semi-formal attire, symbolizing that while they may look good on the outside, their insides could be at risk.

The campaign emphasizes that getting screened for colorectal cancer is crucial for maintaining health both inside and out, encouraging Black men to prioritize their well-being and participate in regular screenings.

Why This Matters

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness month and colorectal cancer disproportionately affects African American men. Here are some critical points to consider:

  • African American men are about 20% more likely to get colorectal cancer and about 40% more likely to die from it than other groups.
  • Each year, an estimated 2,300 African American adults will die from colorectal cancer. The mortality rate for African American men with colorectal cancer is the highest among all racial groups.
  • African American men are often diagnosed at a later stage, which significantly reduces their survival rate.

The recent passing of Chadwick Boseman from colorectal cancer at the age of 43 highlights the importance of early detection and screening.
