Officers working with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Gateway Apartments, located at 13105 21st Drive Southeast, around 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, after multiple 911 calls reported several gunshots fired.

Officers located the two injured juveniles, 17 and 11, and immediately administered aid before they were transported to nearby Providence Medical Center.

One of the victims (17) has since been released from the hospital while the other (11) remains in the hospital with critical injuries, Courtney O’Keefe, Public Information Officer with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office informed the Lynnwood Times. He has since been flown to Harborview.

The 20-year-old suspect initially fled the scene, throwing the handgun used in the crime in a nearby bush, but was later located by Deputies riding a motorized scooter near the 11900 block of 37th Drive Southeast. He has since been taken into custody at the Snohomish County Jail. His arraignment was held on June 3, at 1 p.m. where he was charged with two counts of first-degree assault.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the two juvenile victims were members of a group who were spray painting graffiti on a building when they were confronted and shot by the 20-year-old suspect.

Detectives believe the shooting is gang related. This remains an active investigation.

The shooting took place in the parking lot outside of the apartment complex, not within a specific unit.
