OLYMPIA—With the passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” today in Congress, Governor Bob Ferguson is advising that the approximately one million Washingtonians who receive the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will see a reduction in benefits. In addition, the state will now be on the hook for an additional $87.8 million in administrative costs associated with the SNAP and, at a minimum, an additional $100 million in increase cost share to the state.
“This bill takes food from our most vulnerable Washingtonians to give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy,” Gov. Ferguson said. “This bill is only beautiful to billionaires.”
The One Big Beautiful Bill, he announced will reduce SNAP benefits to the average household under the Thrifty Food Plan by about $56 per month and decrease the maximum allotment per household. Now, the maximum allotment for a family of four would drop from $975 to $848.
The bill also means that more than 130,000 Washingtonians will now need to meet new work requirements to keep their SNAP benefits.
Dan Jackson, Deputy Communications Director for the Governor’s Office, shared with the Lynnwood Times that starting in October, all Washington SNAP recipients will face reduced benefits, alongside a significant increase in the state’s administrative costs.
“The reduction in benefits to all Washington SNAP recipients and the sharp increase in the state’s administrative costs go into effect in October of this year,” Jackson told the Lynnwood Times. “Other provisions either become effective as soon as agencies can implement them, or in subsequent years.”

We ever filled out a form for Food Stamps on their it says you have to be illegal resident of the state of Washington for one and the other is they don’t give out benefits to illegals and you can go to jail for lying about that on the form and you have to declare all of your income before taxes when signing up for Food Stamps I get them and have for sometime. I’m a senior citizen a US citizen by the way and I only get $58 a month so yeah, the Republicans are taking food out of the mouth of people that need it on fixed and limited income and I am I am one of them

I even asked why an was told to go get pregnant and I would then get more help. Melanie, there are a few ways Americans know if someone is legal or illegal. Employers have mostly ignored hiring practices that require legal and proper identification. Some have used fake and/or stolen ID. The most visible way Americans know if someone is illegal is if they’ve have been convicted of a crime and are still in our country running free or have a warrant out for their arrest, which ICE is trying to eradicate.

The problem grew tremendously during the Biden administration when we essentially had open borders. Now, the problem is properly identifying legal immigrants versus illegals who wish to do harm.
I’m a citizen, born and raised in Wa. State. I’ve worked since I was 16, paid taxes, I am 76 and still work. They go to our hospitals, food stamps and they’re not legal. They use our hospitals as a Dr’s office, don’t tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about, I work at a hospital. The more children tthey have the more they get. I’m tired of supporting all the illegals. Try going to their country to see if you get what they get here. When they have children here, now their children are citizens. People better wake up. We have enough problems paying off the deficit and people want us to take on illegals, take the shirts off the backs of people that have worked our whole life. Don’t tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about. I’ve lived over 76 years, our country is worse than it ever has. Democrats states are sanctuary states wanting to help the illegals. I’m tired of it. THEY NEED TO GO BACK WHERE THEY CAME with what they brought with them.
Illegal immigrants do get benefits I know this for a fact. I had a stroke and heart attackb1 year ago. I was working until then. I need to heal and recover from this I didn’t qualify for fmla or anything else. I found a program thru dshs .I waited 3 hours on hold. No I did qualify for it except 1. I was not an illegal immigrant. There I had to go back to work immediately. I still have limitations due to the fact I didn’t get to recover. I think our governor is a crook. I believe if u want to live in our country go about it the proper way. Those here illegally, your breaking the law.

So, I just turned 68 in April. Born and raised in Olympia, have some health issues, have been clean from alcohol (about 35 years) and drugs
(about 23 years). Never had a great career but did work. I live on less than $1,000. a month and very much depend on SNAP to help with food, but, I was supposed to get them today as a matter of fact, $147. on the 10th of every month. Guess what?? So far nothing….So, does this mean I need to go back to “(old ways)”, that I don’t want to do AT ALL?? SURVIVAL MODE
