Despite recent rain, our area is still extremely dry South County Fire says in relation to Friday’s brush fire: “Use EXTREME caution with any heat source. It only takes one spark!”

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory on Friday, August 22, through to 5 p.m., Tuesday, August 26, for Snohomish County and other parts of northwest and west central Washington.

“Hot conditions with high temperatures ranging from the mid 80s to 90s expected and low temperatures mostly in the 60s. This will pose a moderate risk of heat-related illness,” the advisory read.

Heat will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses for those who are sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling or adequate hydration, the advisory added.

Extreme heat can lead to heat stroke, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, dehydration, and death. Anyone can be at risk, but some are more vulnerable, including pregnant women, people with heart or lung conditions, young children, older adults, athletes, and outdoor workers.
