MONROE—Gavin J Wright, 22, of Monroe was pronounced deceased at the scene after a fatal collision on US-2 roughly 2 miles west from Sultan on September 6, Washington State Patrol reports.

At approximately 5:48 p.m., Saturday evening, emergency personnel responded to reports of an incident near The Lodge at Sonneveldt Vineyard at Fern Bluff Road. According to WSP, Wright was travelling eastbound on US-2 heading toward Sultan when his Toyota Tacoma truck crossed the center line into oncoming traffic near Fern Bluff Road striking an oncoming vehicle—a 2017 Ford F350.
Both vehicles came to rest in the westbound lane of US-2.
The 59-year-old driver of the F350, Karl Poulsen, was taken to Evergreen Health in Monroe and evaluated. His condition is unknown. Wright was pronounced deceased at the scene. WSP reports that Poulsen was wearing his seatbelt; Wright was not.
Alcohol or drugs is expected to have contributed to the fatal collision.

Time that the State Legislature gets a conscience and fixes Highway 2. They do plenty of work on roads around Seattle but don’t do much work anywhere else. I am the grandfather of one that just died there.
I really say about your loss I haven’t is too dangerous
In the 1960s the area around Hwy 2 was clearcut and graded between Woodinville and Monroe for an interstate style highway under Gov Albert Rosellini. It’s still observable 60years later, despite being repopulated with alders. The money for completion just “went away” inexplicably. Sort of set the precedent for Washington governance
I was involved in a fatal accident on hwy 2 at Fern Bluff in 1997. It was heartbreaking to say the least. Hwy 2 should have been widened long ago. They keep putting bandaids on bad areas but never addressing the whole problem. The traffic on hwy 2 has increased to the point that state leaders need to get busy and use the exorbitant high taxes and get this hwy fixed.

I thank you for reporting the accident, however, don’t print something that is suggestive when you don’t have all of the facts.
Gavin, my grandson, went over the centerline causing the accident. However, he was not using alcohol or drugs. If anybody reads the article they have probably assumed that he was because of your statement. Don’t put anything in the article that you write that you do not know for certain. Report the news and do not speculate. (9/14/2025)
