Time is running out to get up to $7,500 in AT&T’s $177 Million data breach settlement

NEW YORK—AT&T, one of the nation’s largest telecommunications providers, finalized a $177 million settlement in March 2025 to address two major data breaches that compromised the personal information of nearly 109 million current and former customers. With the claim filing deadline set for December 18, 2025—just weeks away—the window to claim a settlement for as much as $7,500 is narrowing.

ATT settlement

You may qualify if you were an AT&T wireless, internet, or landline customer at any point from May 1, 2019, to October 31, 2022, or if your data was leaked. While AT&T maintains it did not engage in wrongdoing, the company opted to settle the class-action lawsuits to resolve the matter efficiently and provide relief to those impacted.

The first data breach exposed call and text records, along with details such as names, phone numbers, and addresses, for approximately 110 million individuals. The second incident affected around 73 million accounts, revealing more critical information including Social Security numbers.

Who’s Eligible?

  • Tier 1 (AT&T 1 Settlement Class): Customers whose data (like names, phone numbers, and addresses) was in the first breach but not Social Security Number. Eligible for up to $5,000 in cash payments for documented losses (e.g., identity theft costs, credit monitoring).
  • Tier 2 (AT&T 2 Settlement Class): Those whose Social Security Number was exposed in the second breach. Eligible for up to $7,500 in compensation, plus free credit monitoring.

How to Claim Your Check/Payment

Submitting a claim is a simple, no-cost process that does not require legal representation unless individuals choose to opt out of the settlement for other pursuits.

  • File a claim online at the official settlement site: telecomdatasettlement.com.
  • Deadline: December 18, 2025 (postmarked if mailing).
  • Provide proof of losses for higher amounts; otherwise, smaller automatic payments may apply.
  • Payments will be issued via check, direct deposit, or prepaid card once approved (expected in 2026).

After filing, track your claim status through the portal. Objections or exclusions from the settlement must also be filed by the December 18, 2025,deadline.
