SNOHOMISH—At approximately 11 a.m., Saturday, December 13, Snohomish County Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of subjects launching boats and kayaks in a closed off area near Marsh Road and Lowell Larimer Road in south Snohomish County. Deputies were able to contact several of the subjects but were unaware at the time the “kayakers” were possible looters.

One homeowner, who was also a victim of the flooding, in returning to their property to check on it and recover their boat, found that items had been stolen and that their property had been vandalized.
The homeowner was able to contact the “kayakers” and recover their property. The incident was reported to Deputies after law enforcement had already contacted subjects that had crossed the road closed signs to allegedly loot.
Below are some tips by the Snohomish Conty Sheriff’s Office for those who have been victimized by flooding:
- Lock up your valuables as best you can.
- Security cameras are helpful to deter would be thieves as well as provide helpful evidence when you have been victimized.
- Write down serial numbers. It is helpful to police to track stolen property when there is a serial number or other identifying markings.
For those with ill intent or seeking to get pictures or sight see in the flooded areas, the Snohomish Conty Sheriff’s Office says:
- Do not crossroad closed signs and enter flooded areas.
- These people have already been victimized enough and are trying to recover after a natural disaster.
For those with criminal intent, the Snohomish Conty Sheriff’s Office has this message: “Thou shalt not steal, it’s immoral and a crime. We will find you and arrest you.”
This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
