SNOHOMISH COUNTY—A 33-year-old man died early Tuesday after his vehicle plunged into floodwaters, despite posted road closures in an area affected by persistent heavy rains.

Snohomish County Deputies, Snohomish County Fire District #4 and Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue personnel responded around 1:30 a.m. to reports of a vehicle in the water near the 6600 block of Marsh Road. Authorities said the driver had proceeded past road-closed signs at Lowell Larimer Road and Marsh Road, continuing northbound into a still-flooded section of roadway.
The vehicle veered off the road and entered a lower farmland and ditch area holding about six feet of water, becoming fully submerged.
Upon arrival, deputies located the car underwater. Fire rescue swimmers reached the vehicle, extracted the driver, and attempted lifesaving measures. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other occupants were in the vehicle.
The incident comes amid widespread flooding in Snohomish County from recent atmospheric rivers, which prompted multiple road closures, including sections near Marsh Road and Lowell Larimer Road.
The crash remains under investigation. Officials said it is unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
Positive identification, along with the cause and manner of death, will be handled by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
