“Mike is a thoughtful, community-oriented leader with unmatched experience and a proven track record of advancing opportunity and economic growth,” said Mayor Cassie Franklin. “His leadership will take Everett’s economic development work to the next level: building upon our recent successes and making the most of the opportunities before us while still staying true to who we are as a community.”

Fong brings decades of economic development and public administration experience at the local, state and national levels. This includes leadership roles with the Washington State Department of Commerce and the U.S. Small Business Administration, advancing initiatives that increased housing development and boosted small business support.

In his new role with Everett, Fong will lead efforts to strengthen the city’s economy; support businesses; attract development and investment; and sustain long-term job growth.

“Everett is a city with strong momentum and big priorities ahead under the leadership of Mayor Cassie Franklin,” said Fong. “I’m excited to support her in delivering results for residents and businesses across the city. I look forward to continuing close collaboration with the County and our regional partners as we move shared priorities forward.”

Most recently, Fong served as executive director for economic development at Snohomish County Government. In this role, he led initiatives to support businesses, foster innovation and strengthen the regional economy.

“Mike has been a valuable member of my team in Snohomish County, and I am grateful for the care and knowledge he’s brought to our economic development initiatives,” Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers said. “I appreciate the county’s partnership with the City of Everett, and I look forward to many more opportunities to work with Mayor Franklin, Mike, and the rest of their team on important local and regional issues.”

Previously, Fong served as Snohomish County’s chief recovery and resilience officer, helping to coordinate the strategic investment of $160 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds countywide.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Executive Somers for his leadership and support, and to the entire Snohomish County team for the opportunity to serve. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together and excited to continue that partnership in my new role,” said Fong

Fong will be joining the City of Everett team ahead of the retirement of long-time employee Lori Cummings, who currently serves as a senior executive director. Cummings has served the City for 42 years in both the parks department and administration.
