ARLINGTONโVillage Community Servicesย (VCS), a Snohomish County based nonprofit organization serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, announced today that it has received $8,959,672 from the Washington State Department of Commerceโsย 2025 Multifamily Housing Unit (MHU) Rental Housing Programย for its Village Housing project.

Village Community Services launched the Village Housing project in 2023 to address Washingtonโs severe housing shortage for adults with disabilities โ a gap estimated at more than 37,000 units statewide. Through this project, Village Community Services provides safe, affordable, and permanent rental housing paired with professional support services for adults with disabilities who often face overwhelming barriers to independent living. The project is funded entirely through state and federal grants, foundations, and individual donors.
โThis award is so important for the individuals we serve and for our entire region,โ said Sarah Mulligan, CEO of Village Community Services. โFor decades, adults with disabilities have lived with uncertainty โ waiting for housing that is functional, accessible, and affordable. ย Village Housing changes that. This funding allows us to complete and sustain homes that offer not just shelter, but dignity, stability, and the opportunity to truly belong in a community.โ
Mulligan continued, โWe are deeply grateful to the Washington State Department of Commerce for believing in this vision and investing in a future where people with disabilities have the same right to safe, permanent housing as anyone else. This is how communities are built โ when public investment, nonprofit leadership, and community partners come together around a shared commitment to inclusion.โ
Village Housing funding is awarded through the Washington State Housing Trust Fund and remains subject to final contracting and compliance with program requirements.
