EVERETT – This year marks the 125th anniversary of the YMCA of Snohomish County, celebrating more than a century of strengthening our community and ensuring everyone has a place to belong. Since opening its doors on January 23, 1901, the Y has been a trusted partner to generations of families – responding to local needs and helping neighbors thrive.
From its earliest days, the YMCA of Snohomish County has evolved alongside the community it serves. What began as a gathering place has grown into a vital community resource – providing child care that supports working families, swim lessons that save lives, youth programs that build confidence and leadership, and welcoming spaces that combat isolation and loneliness.
“For 125 years, the YMCA of Snohomish County has shown up for this community – especially when it mattered most,” said Peyton Tune, President and CEO of the YMCA of Snohomish County. “Our impact is measured in stronger kids, healthier families, and connections that turn neighbors into community.”
The YMCA’s local story is part of a larger national movement that has shaped communities across America for 175 years. From pioneering swim lessons and youth development programs to creating spaces where people of all ages can connect, the Y has always adapted to meet the moment. Today, that mission feels more urgent than ever. Across Snohomish County, families are seeking affordable child care, youth need safe places to grow, and adults and seniors are searching for connection in an increasingly disconnected world.
“Loneliness and isolation are defining challenges of our time,” Tune said. “The Y was built for this moment. We bring people together across generations, backgrounds, and life stages, fostering connections that strengthen the entire community.”
Today, the YMCA of Snohomish County serves tens of thousands of individuals each year across the county, offering programs in youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. With six branches, YMCA Camp Casey, two Early Learning Centers and dozens of Before and After School Care sites, the Y remains committed to removing barriers and ensuring access for all, regardless of income or circumstance.
Throughout 2026, the YMCA of Snohomish County will be celebrating through storytelling moments honoring the people, programs, and partnerships that have shaped its 125-year legacy, while looking ahead to the future of service in Snohomish County.
