The operator of Eddie Bauer stores is preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to Women’s Wear Daily, a move expected to close all of the outdoor apparel retailer’s approximately 200 brick-and-motor locations across North America, including more than 10 in Washington state.

Eddie Bauer is a 106-year-old American outdoor apparel and gear brand, founded in 1920 by Eddie Bauer in Seattle, Washington. It specializes in high-quality outerwear, clothing, footwear, and accessories designed for adventure and everyday use, with a focus on durability and performance.
The bankruptcy filing for the Seattle-founded brand, involves the entity managing physical stores, not the brand itself, which is owned by Authentic Brands Group.
Sources familiar with the matter say the restructuring will likely shutter brick-and-mortar locations while preserving e-commerce, wholesale and licensing operations. Eddie Bauer’s website will also remain active for online sales.
In Washington, the closures will eliminate 10 to 11 stores. Locally, the Eddie Bauer store at Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood is among those expected to close; its Bellevue Square flagship store closed last June.
