Larsen cuts ribbon at North Camano Substation, and visits Senior Centers

STANWOOD AND CAMANO ISLAND – Yesterday, Representative Rick Larsen (WA-02) delivered remarks at a ribbon cutting for the Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD)’s North Camano Substation. As the top Democrat on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Larsen is committed to building resilient local electrical infrastructure and creating good paying local jobs in Northwest Washington.

Afterwards, Rep. Larsen visited Camano Center, which provides community activities for seniors as well as support services such as Meals on Wheels and medical transportation rides. Rep. Larsen is working hard to strengthen Medicare and Social Security, and introduced legislation last year to reverse paperwork requirements in Republicans’ Big Ugly Law that would result in thousands of Washington seniors losing access to health care.

Then, Rep. Larsen met with Hooves and Heroes, a local equine therapy organization that works with first responders and veterans. Rep. Larsen is a strong supporter of federal funding for community-based suicide prevention services. Last November, Rep. Larsen published ‘Listening to Veterans in Northwest Washington,’ a report capturing local veterans’ most pressing challenges and outlining policy recommendations for Congress to address these concerns.

Then, Rep. Larsen visited Community Resource Center of Stanwood-Camano to discuss the affordability challenges that their clients are facing because of Republicans’ Big Ugly Law (BUL). The Community Resource Center of Stanwood-Camano provides family support, early learning programs, teen programs and resource navigators to help people access affordable food, health care and education. As many as 390,000 Washingtonians could have their Medicare, Medicaid or Affordable Care Act coverage ripped away because of the BUL. The BUL also makes the largest cut in history to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Then, Rep. Larsen toured Lincoln Hill Retirement Community and discuss challenges seniors are facing due to cuts to health care and affordable food in Republicans’ Big Ugly Law, as well as rising prices because of President Trump’s unnecessary trade wars and reckless war in Iran. He also discussed the community’s operation of Snow Goose Transit.
