Mukilteo Mayor Joe Marine selected as Community Transit board chair

Snohomish County, Wash., February 6, 2022 – Mukilteo Mayor Joe Marine was selected by his peers last week to serve as chair of the Community Transit Board of Directors for 2022. He has lived in Mukilteo for more than 25 years and has served on the Mukilteo City Council and as mayor.

“I am excited to help lead the important discussions that will take place on the Community Transit board this year,” said Marine, who also served as Community Transit Board chair in 2012-13. “Safety of our customers and the staff who provide our bus service day in and day out is a top priority, as is increasing ridership as we prepare for light rail to get to Snohomish County in two years.”

Arlington City Council Member Jan Schuette was chosen as vice chair. She is also the alternate Community Transit representative for the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) Transportation Policy Board.

Snohomish City Council Member Tom Merrill was selected as secretary.

Former Community Transit board chair and Lake Stevens City Council Member Kim Daughtry was selected as PSRC policy board representative.

The Community Transit board is comprised of nine elected officials from Snohomish County and the cities within the transit agency’s service district, as well as a labor representative selected by the agency’s bargaining units.

2022 Community Transit Board members include:

  • Stanwood Mayor Sid Roberts

  • Bothell Mayor Mason Thompson
  • Edmonds City Council Member Susan Paine
  • Mountlake Terrace Mayor Kyoko Matsumoto Wright
  • Snohomish County Council Member Nate Nehring

Community Transit is responsible for providing bus and paratransit service, vanpool and alternative commute options in Snohomish County, Wash. The agency is building a network of Swift bus rapid transit lines and is redesigning its bus network to connect with regional light rail in 2024.
