On Saturday, July 14, hundreds gathered at Meadowdale Middle School to search through thousands of items at the tenth annual Lynnwood Rotary Rummage Sale.  All items are donated. The herculean effort requires hundreds of hours and about 100 volunteers for a year coordinating and sorting items for the big day. This year the raffle prize was a 65-in Samsung smart T.V. and Caring Clowns International provided entertainment for the kids.
Event coordinator and Rotarian Gunnvor Tveidt said that proceeds from the event will go toward programs that benefit the community such as local scholarships, grants, the annual coat drive and Neighbors in Need. The Lynnwood rummage sale is based on the Bainbridge Island Rotary Auction & Rummage event.
Volunteering at the event were Rotarians former State Senator Gary Nelson, Lynnwood Mayor Nicola Smith, City Council Vice President Christine Frizzell, Lynnwood City Councilwoman and incumbent candidate for position 7 Shannon Sessions, and Snohomish County Judges Beth Fraser and Jeffrey Goodwin. Former South Division Court Administrator, Jeri Cusimano, was one of many attendees taking advantage of the bargain prices.
Sessions, a 17-year Rotarian, said since high school she has volunteered to make a difference in the community. What she admires most about Lynnwood Rotary is its values and its adherence to the 4-Way Test. This test was adopted in 1943 and has been translated into over a hundred languages. It asks the following four questions:
Of the things we think, say or do:
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Tveidt would like to give a special thanks to the Edmonds School District for providing the space to the host the event, Acura of Lynnwood, the City of Lynnwood, Chick-fil-A of Lynnwood, Sparta’s Pizza and Hop Drops.
The next big Rotary event scheduled is the annual charity Golf Tournament at Lynnwood Municipal Golf Course on August 2. If you would like to learn more about the Lynnwood Rotary visit rotarycluboflynnwood.com.
