Sheriff’s Office Dive Team recovers bodies of missing brothers from Lake Howard

STANWOOD, Wash., February 25, 2022 – Yesterday, the Sheriff’s Office dive team recovered the bodies of who they believe to be the two missing Port Orchard brothers, 19-year-old Alexander Tennyson and a 21-year-old Andrew Tennyson, who went missing on Lake Howard on Saturday, January 29. Lake Howard is located in a residential neighborhood near Stanwood.

Around 3 a.m. on January 29, the Sheriff’s Office responded to Lake Howard for reports of two brothers who went out on a canoe around 12:30 a.m. and had not been seen since. Witnesses reported they were not wearing life jackets, and no one reported seeing the men in distress or go under water.

Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel, Getchell Fire Department, Sheriff’s Office dive team, and drone operators responded to the scene to assist with the search. The canoe was located and recovered on January 29, but rescuers were unable to locate the victims.

The Sheriff’s Office dive team and marine unit, with assistance from the US Coast Guard, searched Lake Howard for nine days and were unable to locate the victims. The victims’ bodies were recovered from Lake Howard by the Sheriff’s Office dive team and marine unit on Thursday, February 24.

They were transported to shore where the Snohomish County Medical Examiner took custody of them. The Medical Examiner will provide positive identification of the decedents, as well as determine their cause and manner of death.
