MILL CREEK, Wash., April 11, 2022 – The search for the City of Mill Creek’s next City Manager is underway, and Colin Baenziger & Associates (CB&A), a nationally recognized municipal executive search firm is on board to help with the search.
Last week, Lynelle Klein, CB&A’s project manager, began meeting with members of the City Council and staff to better define the position and gather materials so it could begin marketing the position to City Managers and Assistants in Washington and nationally.
“We are excited to be working with Ms. Klein,” said Mayor Pro Tem Stephanie Vignal who served as a member of Executive Recruitment Firm Selection Committee along with Council Members Melissa Duque and John Steckler. “We were very impressed with Ms. Klein’s knowledge and experience and are sure she will help us find an outstanding City Manager,” the Mayor Pro Tem continued.
Council Member Duque added, “We are really hoping to find candidates with experience managing in Washington. Our state laws are a bit different from most other states, and we feel experience here would be helpful. We noticed that CB&A had conducted City Manager searches locally Bellevue, Burien, Lake Forest Park, Mountlake Terrace, Normandy Park, and Tacoma, and so the firm knows our market.”
Council Member John Steckler said, “I really liked their background check process. I appreciate knowing that anyone they present to us, and we are considering for an interview, has already been thoroughly vetted.”
Ms. Klein said, “I am really enthusiastic about working with Mill Creek. I have been extremely impressed with all the Council Members and staff. They seem like a wonderful group of people, and I am sure that will attract a great group of candidates.”
The schedule calls for the Council to review the recruiting materials at a study session on April 12th, for the formal recruitment to begin on April 15th with applications due on May 9th. The Council will select finalists on June 14th and interview candidates on June 24th (including a reception for the Council, staff and members of the public) and 25th.
When asked for comment, Mayor Brian Holtzclaw said, “I am really excited about getting the process going and finding an outstanding City Manager to help us take Mill Creek to the next level and to a brighter future!”
