Thousands hunt for eggs during Mill Creek’s Eggstravaganza

MILL CREEK, Wash., April 22, 2022 – Approximately 3,000 attendees scoured the grassy area at the center of Heatherwood Middle School Saturday, April 16, in search of Easter eggs for the city’s 19th annual Eggstravaganza event – one of the City’s largest events of the year.

“It was a hit! We were excited to have such a fantastic turnout, but, of course, the beautiful weather didn’t hurt – we are thankful to the Everett School District for allowing us to use the Heatherwood Middle School track year after year,” Jody Hawkins, Communications and Marketing for the City of Mill Creek, told the Lynnwood Times.

Around 18,000 plastic eggs filled with candy, donated by Town and Country Markets, and hundreds of prizes were hidden across the track area of Heatherwood Middle School by Mill Creek Youth Advisory Board volunteers. The eggs were filled during three separate stuffing events by the board as well as Kiwanis Key Club members.

In addition to the egg hunt, children could get their favorite balloon animals twisted by Tiny Art Face Painting, and their photo taken with the Easter Bunny, Mill Creek’s PW 14 truck, or a motorcycle provided by Mill Creek Police Department.

Mill Creek’s first Eggstravaganza event started in 2003 and has been held at Heatherwood Middle School since at least 2005. The cost has varied over the years depending on sponsors.

This year’s sponsors were Venture Church, Town and Country Markets, Waste Management (WM) and Starbucks.

The event cost the City less than $4,000, on vendors and supplies, and was organized by the Communications and Marketing Department with Venture Church. City staff, Mill Creek Police Department Citizen’s Patrol, and over 65 volunteers from Venture Church, and Mill Creek Youth Advisory Board staffed the event.

As well as fun for the whole family, The Mill Creek Community Food Bank collected over 1,187 pounds of food at this year’s event, according to Jennifer Boyington, Director of Hope Creek Charitable Foundation – enough to feed nine families this week.

“We give around 120 pounds per average family per week, and we are currently serving around 600 families each week,” Boyington said.
