The Lynnwood Anko store, which opened in April, hosted a Puppy Pop-Up event on August 24 to benefit Adams County Pet Rescue (ACPR). Six dogs were available for adoption.
“This is our first Puppy Pop-Up and our first of many, hopefully,” said Shawn Thistlethwaite, Vice President of Marketing at Anko. “We really wanted to integrate with the community. When we go into a community, we also want to make it better and just be a good neighbor.”
Thistlethwaite also stressed the importance of bringing recognition to independent businesses. In addition to donating 750 dollars to ACPR, Anko covered the expenses for The Seattle Barkery and Best Friends Photography so attendees and consumers could experience their services without paying. Emily Rieman of Best Friends Photography provided pet pictures, and Seattle Barkery provided pet treats.
Thalia Sparrell and Winston Estrada were the two from ACPR who brought six dogs for adoption. Sparrell has worked for the organization for a year and a half, though she volunteered for three years before that. Estrada has worked with the organization for three and a half months.
“My favorite part of my job is seeing the transformation of these dogs,” said Sparrell. “More people should give shelter dogs a chance.”
“Just because they’re strays, that doesn’t mean they can’t have a home,” Estrada said. “Every dog deserves a loving home.”
Sparrell and Estrada extended their gratitude to all their donors, since ACPR runs on donations, as well as to Anko for inviting them to do the event. They also thanked the director of ACPR, Kyya Grant. “We wouldn’t be able to do this without her,” they said.
Thistlethwaite emphasized the importance of providing an experience for the attendees and customers. “Of course, we can open our doors, and of course we have product, but we want people to have an experience,” he said.
Four of the six dogs were adopted at the Puppy Pop-Up.
