Imagine Children’s Museum invites everyone to celebrate Lunar New Year

EVERETT, Wash., January 19, 2023—On Saturday, January 21, Imagine Children’s Museum in downtown Everett will host its annual Lunar New Year celebration with special art activities and a lion dance performance.

Lunar New Year is an annual festival that is one of the most important holidays in East and Southeast Asian cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean communities, among others. The 15-day festival marks the end of winter and beginning of spring and is a special time to connect with family members.

Imagine is a family-friendly Museum dedicated to enriching children’s lives through playful learning and embracing the rich diversity of the Puget Sound region. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., families are invited to spend quality time together creating new family traditions with special activities, all of which are free with Museum admission or membership.

Celebrate our World: ChinaArt Hangout, all day (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)Get creative! Throughout the day in the Art Hangout, children and families can make art projects inspired by artistic and cultural traditions of China. A range of materials and ideas will be available to inspire your own family’s creations.

Lunar New Year

Cultural Performance: Lion Dance Lodge, 1 p.m.Children and families can enjoy a traditional Lion Dance, performed by the Mak Fai Washington Kung Fu Club. The colorful and athletic dance is traditionally performed at Lunar New Year celebrations to bring good luck and fortune in the year ahead. The lion dance is operated by two dancers inside a vibrantly colored lion costume and is accompanied by a team of musicians playing drums and other musical instruments.

Offering three floors of unbeatable play spaces for children ages 1-12 and their families, Imagine Children’s Museum recently opened a $25 million expansion including state-of-the-art, interactive exhibits to inspire a lifelong love of learning through play. The new exhibits showcase the Pacific Northwest, the Puget Sound and Port of Everett; an engineering gallery; a tinker shop where children can learn to use real tools; an exhibit about woodlands; an exhibit about package distribution; a marine ecosystems exhibit; and a few others. These complement the museum’s original exhibits, which include an Everett Transit bus, a miniature locomotive track, and a water works area.
