Members of the Libertarian Party waved signs near Alderwood Mall to bring awareness on Bill of Rights Day with the hope to generate conversations about its importance.

December 15 was Bill of Rights Day which commemorates the ratification of the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution on December 15, 1791.

The first 10 amendments protect the rights of Americans, such as freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right to bear arms, protection from unreasonable searches and seizures, due process, the guarantee of equal protections under the law and States rights.

Layla Bush, Region 2 Representative of the Libertarian Party of Washington said, “It is important for people to know that the Bill of Rights is the reason we are able to live as we do.”

Anthony Welti, 2020 candidate for Washington Insurance Commissioner added, “We are here to plant seeds, not change minds… too much focus in today’s environment has been on politics and not healthy debate.”

According to its website, Libertarians believe in limited government, maximizing freedom and fiscal responsibility. Maya Ojalehto, Vice Chair of the Libertarian Party of Snohomish County encourages residents to attend one of their monthly meetings to learn more about the “third option” to the Republican and Democratic parties.
