Detectives seeking the public’s help in solving cold case homicide

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash., July 1, 2023—The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit Detectives are seeking the public’s help in solving the 1985 cold case homicide of 19-year-old Tira Snyder.

On July 1, 1985, Tira Snyder was found dead in her home near Lake Roesiger. She had arrived home after grocery shopping with her 6-month-old child named Molly. While inside, she was shot multiple times with a 22-caliber pistol. Tira was discovered later that evening when her husband, Dave, returned home from work. Their 6-month-old daughter was still inside the vehicle parked in the driveway and was unharmed.

“I always feel like Molly was short-changed,” Dave Snyder told the Everett Herald back in 2008. “She never got a chance to know her mother.”

The primary suspects at the time of the murder were serial burglars Byron Bowman and his cousin Lyal Bogart. Detectives at the time speculated that Snyder was killed by a burglar whom she surprised in her Lake Roesiger home.

Anyone with information related to Tira’s death is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tipline 425-388-3845 or submit a tip online: https://snohomishcountywa.gov/…/Sher…/Anonymous-Tips-107
