Focus on Farming & Forestry Conference to Bring Industry Leaders Together on November 9

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash., November 3, 2023 – Snohomish County is hosting the 18th annual Focus on Farming and Forestry Conference on November 9 at the Evergreen State Fair Park in Monroe. Providing quality education to sustain current farmers and attract new ones to our region is a critical component of the work of the County’s Office of Agriculture. This is also essential in securing the next generation’s local food supply and supporting Snohomish County’s agriculture industry.

“Agriculture has been an important part of Snohomish County’s economy, culture, and civic life for generations. Supporting and growing a strong agriculture sector is crucial for maintaining the quality of life and economic health of our residents,” said Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers. “I encourage all those who are interested and able to attend the upcoming Focus on Farming and Forestry conference so we can continue to support this vital industry.”

The day will kick off with remarks from Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers, and pre-recorded remarks from U.S. Congresswomen Suzan DelBene and Dr. Kim Schrier. The morning keynote speaker is Chris Voigt, Executive Director of the Washington State Potato commission. Bruce Vincent, author of “Against the Odds: A Path Forward for Rural America” and recipient of the inaugural Presidential Preserve America Award will be the afternoon speaker. There will be seven tracks of sessions for attendees to choose from, and topics include New and Beginner Farmers, Livestock Production, Business of Farming, Agritourism, Soil Health, Flower Farming and Forestry. Sessions will teach attendees how to create a succession plan for their business, generate year-round income, integrate agritourism, and gain valuable insights from soil testing. There is something for everyone!

“Each year people come to Focus on Farming to learn, be inspired, connect with industry professionals, and see old friends. We couldn’t put on an event of this scale without the support of our sponsors and in-kind supporters,” said Linda Neunzig, Snohomish County Agriculture Coordinator.

Those interested in attending the event can view the full agenda and pre-register at www.FocusOnFarming.org. Entry includes breakfast and a farm-to-table lunch prepared by Chef Russell Lowell.
