DARRINGTON—Alyssa Shanchez, 30, of Darrington was arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail on Tuesday, February 27, for the first-degree murder of her 5-year-old daughter. Bail is set at $5 million.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday, February 26, Snohomish County deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call by Shanchez that she killed her child. Upon arrival, she told deputies the child has been deceased since February 14. Deputies contacted additional family members and determined the child was not in the care of any relatives.
Sanchez confessed to stabbing her 5-year-old daughter in the stomach repeatedly after hearing voices in her head telling her that her little girl was the devil. After several days, Sanchez moved the body of her daughter from the backseat of the Toyota Camry where the fatal incident occurred and buried her in a shallow grave.
Police exhumed the body of the 5-year-old girl on Wednesday, February 28, and discovered copious amounts of blood in the backseat of the vehicle matching the story Snachez told detectives.
Shanchez is facing Muder 1 DV, a Class A felony which if found guilty, is life imprisonment.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Added bail from Wednesday’s custody hearing. [4:15 p.m., 2/28/2024]
