EVERETT—Graduates of the Everett Community College honors program presented their final projects at the college’s honors forum on June 5.
Honors graduates include Kai Decker, Chien Nguyen and Elishah Webb. The guest speaker at the honors forum was 2013 EvCC Outstanding Graduate Colby Droullard, who earned honors credits at Everett Community College and is now a major crimes detective with the Everett police department.
This is the 12th year students have graduated from the program. Everett Community College started the program in fall 2011 to provide advanced academic challenges to students and enable students to stand out when they transfer to 4-year schools. Honors graduates’ achievements are reflected on their transcripts. This program is supported in part by the Henry M. Jackson Foundation.
Students’ capstone projects include:
- Kai Decker researched the association between academic achievement, student engagement, and sense of belonging of a high school student population after COVID-19.
- Chien Nguyen created an all-in-one resource funder and computer science academic planning pathway tool written in Java for EvCC students transferring to bachelor’s degree programs.
- Elishah Webb researched, designed and built an axial flux motor, a type of electric motor that rotates parallel to the stator, unlike the traditional radial motor.
Any student who has earned a B or higher in English 101 and has an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher is eligible to join the honors program. To graduate from the honors program, students must complete 15 credits of honors classes plus a 5-credit capstone project.
