Suspect identified and charges forwarded in I-5 fatal stabbing

KING COUNTY—At approximately 2:40 p.m., June 26, 2024, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received 9-1-1 calls reporting a domestic violence incident NB I-5 around S 375th in Federal Way.

Further 9-1-1 callers reported that there appeared to be several injuries to individuals in and around a black BMW partially in the right ditch. There were also reports of a shooting associated with this vehicle.

Troopers arrived in the area and contacted a male and female that had distanced themselves from the vehicle both having stab wounds. Another male was discovered on the ground next to the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. The male driver was still in the vehicle with a large stab wound to his neck. The driver unfortunately was deceased.

Troopers were quickly able to confirm that all four individuals involved were in the BMW and no other vehicle was involved and no one was outstanding.

The two males and one female were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

At this point there was no determination of what had occurred. It was unknown who was a suspect and who was a victim. The scene was processed by WSP detectives and the Crime Scene Response Team, clearing the scene after 11 p.m.

Through further investigation to include interviews WSP detectives were able to determine one of the adults in the back seat of the vehicle was the suspect that stabbed the driver and other two passengers. The suspect is the one that sustained multiple gunshot wounds. This is still an active investigation, and detectives are in the process of determining who fired the handgun.

The suspect remains in the hospital and as soon as medically cleared will be booked into the King County Jail on investigation of Murder in the 2nd degree and two counts of Assault 1st.

The names of involved will not be released until booking or filing of charges by the King County Prosecutor’s Office.
