The project will restore 430 acres of tidal habitat and nearby drinking water lines. It will strengthen flood protection, restore recreational trails, and support the recovery of endangered species like Chinook salmon and orcas, improving local infrastructure and creating a healthier environment for both wildlife and residents.

“This $960,000 federal investment is a major win for both our community and our environment,” said DelBene. “Restoring Chinook Marsh will not only revitalize critical habitat for endangered species but also support flood protection and improve recreational spaces for our residents. This project is a significant step toward ensuring safe, reliable water access while preserving our natural resources for future generations.”

“Snohomish County is grateful for Congresswoman DelBene’s tireless advocacy and support for revitalizing and preserving important habitat in our community,” said Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers. “We are grateful for this substantial federal investment secured by Congresswoman DelBene. Her long-standing commitment to our environment will help ensure endangered species are protected, residents can enjoy our natural areas for generations to come, and our infrastructure supports access to safe and reliable water for all who live, work, and play in Snohomish County.”

DelBene secured over $18 million for 15 community projects across Washington’s 1st Congressional District in the FY24 federal funding package. Projects came directly from non-profit, city, county, Tribal, and state entities, and all funding secured was done in collaboration with project sponsors.
